I know people have their own ideas of how pastors spend their personal time…
Reading, meditating praying, watching old Billy Graham crusades….
Well, while I do that…
I really love to watch the guys at Gas Monkey Garage build hot rods!!
I especially love the builds that start out as a broken down, parked in a field, rust bucket…then they bring it to life!!!!
All high performance on the inside, new chassis, new motor, performance suspension and brakes…but they leave the outside looking old and worn…
There’s something about that natural patina that you can’t recreate… just clean it up a little, spray a clear-coat over it and you have a Hot Rod (that doesn’t really look like a Hot Rod).
One of my favorite Scriptures, 2 Corinthians 5:17, talks about, taking something old and broken and making it better than new.
And that something is you!!
When you are in Christ (accept Him as Savior), you become Jesus’s personal restoration project (actually more like a Hot Rod build)…
He gives you more power than your original equipment (Acts 1:8), gives you the frame and body to handle all of that power (Ephesians 6:10-11), and suspension and brakes to handle the anything the road throws at you (Philippians 4:13)!!
The truth is, in building this” brand new you”, Jesus doesn’t change a lot on the outside, you may still show signs of wear, may even show your age a little (or a lot…)… That’s part of your testimony.
But with a life changed by Christ, powered by The Holy Spirit, you are spiritual Hot Rod!!
So, go show off that power inside and do some donuts in the parking lot (spiritually speaking, of course…)!!!
Love and blessings,
Pastor Daniel
